Mission Ministry Update (June, 2017)

The Mission Ministry exists to serve God and to put our faith into action by spreading the Gospel and helping people with physical, spiritual and emotional issues and hunger in our local communities and throughout the world.

The Mission Ministry wishes to acknowledge Mission contributions beyond the scope of our budgeted activities which represent literally thousands of volunteer hours, financial contributions, goods and services, and independent fund raising activities throughout 2016, totaling an additional $33,000 to FPCC mission programs.

In recognition, we gratefully acknowledge: Care & Prayer, Discipleship, Worship, Presbyterian Women, Mission Sewing, Soup Kitchen Volunteer, Women of the Word, Seaman's Baskets, PW Circles (Esther, Lydia, Martha, Rebecca, and Ruth), PW Women's Retreat and Sisterly Love Bags for victims of human trafficking, Feeding the Hungry Grant Donation, Family Promise, Conroe House of Prayer, Living Water International donations, Shoe Box donations, Mission Ministry Rummage Sale, and non-budgeted offerings throughout the year.

Additional Mission Ministry activities during 2016-2017:

  • Presbyterian Outreach Grant 2016, Homeless Project, awarded $2000
  • Rummage Sale 2016, Church wide effort totaling $2400
  • Living Waters International, collections totaling $7800
  • Achieved Grant award for Tamina Community Center, awarded $8500
  • Achieved Grant award for Houston Endowment, totaling $34,500

  • Lynn Johnson Social Justice Grant Application seeking $2000+

    Purpose: FPC-Conroe is joining the battle against child sex trafficking in Montgomery and Harris Counties.​
  • Presbyterian Outreach Grant 2017, Homeless Project, seeking $2000

​Purpose:  Seeking funds to support on-going efforts in three primary areas:

  1. Family Promise - meals, shelter, job training.
  2. Salvation Army Soup Kitchen - Monday lunches for the homeless.
  3. The Phoenix Charity - rescue, counseling, tattoo & scar removal for victims of human trafficking.
 Our Missions 

Benevolent Missions International, Liaisons – Tom & Susan Young. 
We provide financial support & volunteers to this local agency that supplies eye surgery, medication, eye exams, glasses to the underserved in Fiji & Belize.  (http://eyemissions.com/)

Bridgewood Farms,  Liaison – Penny Bell
Financial assistance for this local agency helps support activities, services & shelter to adults with intellectual disabilities.  (http://www.bridgewoodfarms.org/)

CRU – Ghena and Dasha Milcev, Liaison – Roy Penney
Financial assistance for this family who evangelize athletes to serve as leaders in Moldava through a University course, Monday church gatherings, and at international competitions. (CRU link)

CRU – Buchholz, Liaison – Roy Penney
Financial support for a U.S staff person who trains new staff and serves in International School Projects that train teachers in the Middle East  (https://www.cru.org/)

CRU – Edgar Rodríguez, Liaison – Roy Penney 
Coordinates the translation of Jesus films into native languages of South America. (https://www.cru.org/)

Cancare, Liaisons – Dell Schooler and Kathy Haines.
Financial support and volunteers work to benefit cancer sufferers and encourage fellowship among survivors and their families.  (http://cancare.org/)

Christian Literature, Liaison – Nancy Penney  
We distribute Bibles that uniquely reach particular populations, such as military, Spanish speaking, and youth.  

Christmas Baskets (Special Offerings), Liaisons – Tom Young and Cole LaMaster
Funds are collected for contribution; volunteers purchase, pack, and deliver gifts and food to needy children and their families at Christmas.

Conroe House of Prayer, Liaison – Tom Young & Susan Young, Henry & Betty Blott, Dr. Ron Bailey.   We provide financial assistance for our volunteers to purchase, prepare, and serve breakfast at this local out-reach to the homeless.  (Conroe House of Prayer)

Creative Outreach, Liaisons – Roy and Nancy Penney.
Financial assistance supports this local agency which supplies faith-based training in Life Skills and Drug Rehabilitation at the New Life Women’s Center.  (Creative Outreach link)

Family Promise of Montgomery County, Liaisons – Susan Young and Donna Fisher.
In addition to financial assistance, project leader Jean Ball solicited volunteers, and organized our church building for weekly visits in this program that supplies shelter, meals, training, and compassionate assistance to homeless families with children. (http://familypromiseofmc.org/)

Meals on Wheels, Liaisons – Penny Bell (Conroe) and Tom Young (Montgomery).
We provide financial assistance and volunteer drivers deliver meals to the elderly and/or disabled homebound in Montgomery County.   (http://www.mowmc.org/)  

Hope for the Middle East, Liaison – Nancy Penney.
We contribute financial assistance to this Houston agency, directed by Reverend. E. Elsharony, which aids local immigrants and two small Egyptian churches that are struggling under persecution.

Kairos, Liaisons – Gary and Dell Schooler.
We provide cookies, scholarships, and volunteers to take prayer, support, guidance, and the fellowship of Christian love to the incarcerated.  (http://www.kairostexas.org/)

Living Water International, Liaisons – Dr. Ron Bailey and Tom Young.
FPC members provide funding through the sale of necklaces and by a church- wide special offering so that our volunteers can drill much needed water wells in Central America.  (Website link: https://water.cc/)

Crisis Assistance Center, Liaison – Penny Bell. We provide financial assistance to this local agency for supplying short-term emergency funds and other help to county residents.  (http://www.cac-mctx.org/)

Montgomery County Food Bank, Liaison – Dr. Ron Bailey. In addition to general support for food, we provide volunteers to pack “buddy backpacks” of foodstuffs for children needing to take their weekend meals home from school.  (http://mcfoodbank.org/)

Montgomery County Jail Ministry, Liaison – Roy Kessler. Provides financial assistance for Christian educational materials and volunteer teaching and counseling services to prisoners at the local jail.

Montgomery County Women’s Center, Liaison – Penny Bell.
We give financial support to this agency which supplies emergency shelter, legal services, and counseling programs to victims of family violence, assault, abuse, or stalking.  (http://mcwctx.org/)

Pregnancy Assistance Center North, Liaison – Donna Fisher.
This supports a local women’s center for expectant mothers who lack resources for medical care, baby items, formula, Bibles, etc. (https://www.pacn.org/)

Presbytery of New Covenant, Liaison – Nancy Penney
Provide volunteer and financial support to the denominational work of New Covenant Presbytery as needed. (http://www.pbyofnewcovenant.org/)

Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services, Liaisons – Tom and Susan Young, Henry and Betty Blott.
This denominational agency supplies full-time residences, foster homes, counseling, and other care to abused or neglected children.  (http://texas.pchas.org/)

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Relief Ministry, Liaisons – Tom Young and Roy Penney. 
We support this effort to supply rebuilding services and Christian hope through the One Great Hour of Sharing offering and volunteers in disaster areas.  (https://pda.pcusa.org/)

Resourcing Christian Education (RCE International), Liaison – Roy Penney. 
These funds support educational missionaries; Scott and Carol Musser, in Spain as they begin a new out-reach: initiating the establishment of Christian schools.  Spain’s schools are rated the lowest in Western Europe.  (http://www.rce-international.org/)

Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, Liaison – Sharon Walker.
In addition to financial assistance for purchasing food, we provide volunteers who prepare and serve lunch every Monday; the youth serve lunch one Sunday a month.  

Salvation Army Christmas Bell Ringers, Liaison – Donna Fisher.
We provide volunteers to man a Salvation Army collection stand during the Christmas season.  

The Seafarer’s Christmas Shoe Box Ministry, Liaison – Susan Buckley.
Presbyterian Women sponsors the collection of funds and goods to be packed in shoeboxes, which are delivered to merchant seamen docking at the Port of Houston during November and December.  (http://houstonseafarers.com/events/christmas-giving/)

Serving in Mission (SIM), Liaison – Sara Gutekunst.
These funds support the mission work of Doctors Steve and Sheri Letchford, serving at a teaching hospital in Kenya.  (https://www.sim.org/)

Tamina Community Center, Liaison – Penny Bell.
We provide financial assistance to this low-income neighborhood community center on the eastern edge of The Woodlands.  (http://www.taminacenter.org/programs.php)

Witnessing Ministries of Christ, Liaison – Nancy Penney.
We continued financial assistance to the Exodus Christian Presbyterian Church in North India, where we initiated the organization of a new presbytery.  Funds provide outcast Dalit children and adults with evangelization, education, job training, health knowledge, and leadership skills.
